Who was eliminated on last night’s Biggest Loser?

March 25, 2009 · Filed Under Episode Recaps · 1 Comment

Hi Everyone,

The Black team is in shock when the Blue team comes back without Helen. They were sure Aubrey was the one getting voted off.

Allison announces that everyone will be playing by themselves from now on. The teams are gone. Mike gets his brown tee shirt and Allison shows him his original tee shirt. He’s lost 118 pounds so far. The original tee shirt is huge–so huge that he fits in it along with Aubrey. Next the contestants are told they will have to choose between Bob and Jillian. They have an hour to decide.

The players will choose their trainer according to who has the highest percentage of weight loss. Tara is first. She chooses Jillian. Mike chooses Jillian by a flip of a coin. His father was disappointed that he made the decision in that way. He thought it was too important for him to rely on a coin. Helen chooses Jillian. This surprised most of the contestants, especially Bob. Kristen is next. She chooses Bob. Filipe chooses Bob, which is not a bit surprising. Sione follows suit and chooses Bob. Ron chooses to remain with Bob. Laura decides to stay with Jillian. Aubrey chooses Bob. I thought it was interesting that the only team that stayed together was Filipe and Sione. It shows that they are all ready to make this change just for themselves.

Time for tonight’s challenge. Part one of this week’s challenge is that each player will divide weight blocks between their competition. Allison won’t reveal what part two will be. She does say that the winner will receive immunity. When all is said and done Tara has 257 pounds on her scale. Tara is pretty upset that everyone has ganged up on her. They don’t say how much weight is on the other scales.

Aubrey tries to talk to Tara because she’s so upset. Tara walks away. She feels bad but she’s the strongest in the house and she has to take the heat. Laura goes outside to comfort her. Tara tells her she’s going to throw the weigh-in so she will go home. Laura talks her out of it.

Part two of the challenge will be held on a race track. Nascar driver Clint Blair drives up. Each of the contestants will pull a car that weighs over 2 tons. Each player has the following weights added to their cars: Ron 37, Mike 53, Filipe 67, Aubrey 72, Sione 92, Helen 215 and Tara 257. The winner will receive immunity and a VIP package to a Nascar race. Mike and Sione are way out front. But did they give too much in the beginning and not leave enough to finish? Tara passes out Mike. She’s going on determination and a bit of anger. Amazing that she can pull the car along with all that extra weight. She passes out Sione and wins the challenge. Wow, there doesn’t seem to be any stopping her. Mike finishes in second and Sione in third. Tara gets to ride around the track with Clint. He does burn outs, etc. Not my idea of fun, but she enjoyed it.

Fast forward through the last chance workout to the weigh ins. There is a record breaking moment up for grabs. The first time a woman has lost 100 pounds on the campus. The bottom two at the weigh in will be in danger of elimination. Tara is first up. The record can be won by Tara or Kristin. If Tara loses 4 pounds she will be the first woman in Biggest Loser history to lose 100 pounds. Unfortunately, she only loses 3 so she doesn’t get the record. Since she has immunity it doesn’t really matter what she lost this week. Next up is Kristin. She needs to lose more than 3 pounds to break the record. She loses 8 pounds and a new record is set! Aubrey lost 4 pounds this week. Mike lost 6 pounds this week. He doesn’t feel it’s enough weight. Laura lost 7 pounds this week. So far with the percentages, Mike and Aubrey are in danger of falling below the yellow line. Helen is next up. She lost 5 pounds. This keeps her above the yellow line. Sione lost 7 pounds also keeping him above the yellow line. Ron lost 10 pounds this week. He’s really stepped it up! Filipe needs to lose more than 5 pounds to stay above the yellow line. He lost 4 pounds. This puts him below the yellow line along with Aubrey. Mike pulls it off and is safe from elimination. Thank goodness because I do not want to see that kid go home.

This will be a tough elimination because both Aubrey and Filipe are two really good players and great people. Sione pleads his case for Filipe. This vote can go either way. Tara votes to eliminate Filipe. Mike votes to eliminate Aubrey because he feels like Filipe is his family member. Laura votes to eliminate Filipe. Helen votes to eliminate Aubrey. Kristen votes to eliminate Aubrey. Ron votes to eliminate Aubrey. She is eliminated. As we get closer and closer to the end of this season’s Biggest Loser, each elimination gets harder and harder.

Aubrey has a tough time when she gets home. She actually gains 9 pounds before she realizes that she has to put herself first. It’s hard to have five children and do this. Heck, its hard to do this when you have one child! She gets herself back on track and hopefully will meet her goal by end of the season.

The “coming attraction” for next week’s show is interesting. Did you see it? No? Well stay tuned and keep reading…Bloggergal1

Schedule Change for This Week’s Biggest Loser

March 22, 2009 · Filed Under Episode Recaps, The Biggest Loser, Weight Loss Tips · Comment

Hello Everyone,

Due to President Obama’s news conference, Biggest Loser will air on Tuesday night at 9:00 p.m. It will still run for two hours, so set your DVR if you have work early on Wednesday morning!

This week the teams split up and everyone plays individually. Thank goodness, I don’t think I could take another minute of the Blue Team losing.

Also, I’ve put up a new poll. Now that the contestants are going to be playing individually, who do you think will win this season’s Biggest Loser? Now notice, I said who do you think will win. Complete the poll and then hop on our comment section and tell us who you WANT to win and why. Is there a difference? Yep, to me there is. I think Tara is a really strong player and has a great chance of winning. But, I would love to see Mike win because he’s such a super kid–so kind and compassionate. So let everyone know what you think and I’ll see you here on Wednesday morning. I go to bed before 11 p.m. so I’ll be using my DVR.

Have a great week. Bloggergal1

The Biggest Losers Go Home

March 18, 2009 · Filed Under Episode Recaps · 2 Comments

Hi Everyone,

This will be a challenging week for the Biggest Loser contestants. They will be spending this week at home with their families. Good for them, right? Yes, but will the temptations in the “real world” do them in? We go through each of the contestants arriving back home to see their families after 10 weeks. Lots of tears, hugs and proud comments. Seeing the before and current pictures makes you realize just how far these players have come.

I didn’t get involved in the homecomings until Ron and Mike went into their house. The scene where Mike is hugging is brother who is in desperate need of weight loss was very emotional. I hate to see young people starting out their lives already behind the eight ball like this kid. I hope that Ron and Mike’s weight loss will give him the encouragement he needs to also lose the weight.

Next, Biggest Loser delivers tins to each of the contestants. The tin is filled with giant sugar cookies and a DVD. Allison announces this week’s challenge. The contestants will run a half-marathon. That’s thirteen miles. Now comes the fun part. The tin holds 13 cookies. For every cookie you eat, you can add five minutes to another player’s time. Winner of the half-marathon in the shortest length of time wins $10,000.

Race Day arrives. Each of the contestants will run the half-marathon in front of their families. Tara is the biggest threat because she’s a runner. At the halfway mark, Tara and Sione are running neck and neck timewise. Mike, Helen, Kristen and Helen and Filipe are crashing after about 6 miles. Ron is walking steadily. Tara is as strong as ever. Sione is looking good, but he says he’s in pain. He’s slightly ahead of Tara. About 200 yards away from the finish line, Sione gets a leg cramp. He can’t move. He’s down on the ground and Tara is looking like a winner. Of course, don’t forget about the cookie-eaters adding minutes to her time. Sione finally is able to get back up and finish. Tara finishes the race in 2 hours 24 minutes 19 seconds. Sione finishes in 2 hours 25 minutes 57 seconds. Helen finishes the marathon in 2 hours 49 minutes 19 seconds. Wow, that’s an amazing time for a 48 year-old. Aubrey finishes in 2 hours 53 minutes 2 seconds. Cathy finishes in 3 hours 15 minutes 21 seconds. Mike finishes in 3 hours 19 minutes 38 seconds. Laura finishes in 3 hours 24 minutes. Filipe finishes 3 hours 24 minutes 5 seconds. Kristen finishes in 3 hours 43 minutes 45 seconds. Ron completes 4 miles in under 2 hours. This challenge all comes down to the cookie eating.

The next section of the Biggest Loser shows each contestant facing “their demons”. Pizza, calamari, pastries and other treats are all over the place. We’ll see if they stand their ground. Fast forward through the goodbyes.

Back at the ranch, Allison meets with the contestants to find out who will win the marathon and win the $10,000. It will be between Tara and Sione. No one penalized Sione by eating a cookie. But next is Tara. Before the cookies, she is ahead of Sione by one minute. Helen ate a cookie and did Tara in. Tara is really annoyed. I’m happy. I think Tara has gotten too used to winning. Sione gets the $10,000.

The last chance workouts are intense because the trainers know that they were home and probably didn’t work out as hard as they could.

It’s weigh-in time. The team with the greatest percentage weight loss will win. The losing team must send someone home. First up tonight is Mike. He lost 8 pounds this week. Awesome amount of weight loss considering he went home. Next up is Laura with a 6 pound weight loss. Tara loses 2 pounds. Jillian assures her that she’s doing okay but that she’s over training and that she needs to listen to her because she does this for a living. Sione loses 4 pounds. If he had lost one more pound, his total would have been 100 pounds total. Filipe lost 7 pounds. Helen lost 7 pounds. I guess that cookie didn’t hurt any, huh? In order for the blue team to beat the black team they need to lose a combined total of more than 24 pounds. I’m so rooting for them because they really need a boost to their confidence.

Aubrey is first up for the blue team. She lost 5 pounds. Ron lost 10 pounds this week. Maybe being home was better for him. He’s lost 103 pounds so far. Cathy and Kristin need to lose more than 9 pounds combined to keep the blue team safe. Kristin gained 1 pound. Everyone is shocked. Cathy has to have lost more than 10 pounds for the blue team to be safe. That’s a lot of weight. She lost only 1 pound. The blue team will lose another player this week. Time to re-order the teams, don’t you think?

The blue team has a terrible decision in front of them. They have to send someone home. Cathy volunteers to go home. She wants to sacrifice herself to save Aubrey and Kristin. Aubrey is the first to cast her vote. She votes to send Cathy home. Ron votes to eliminate Cathy saying he’s honoring her wishes. Kristin has the deciding vote between her mother and her friend. She listens to her mom and votes her own mother off. Tears flow and flow.

That’s it for this week. Have a super week. Bloggergal1

Biggest Loser Fans Check out the Real Age Websitea

March 15, 2009 · Filed Under Episode Recaps · Comment

Hi Everyone,

I don’t make a habit of endorsing websites, but I think this is one you should check out. RealAge.com is the website run by the YOU doctors Dr. Oz and Dr. Roizen. You most likely know Dr. Oz for his many appearances on Oprah. This is a great site for a number of reasons.

First of all, take the time to check your “Real Age”. You complete the questionnaire and then you are sent an email telling you your “real” age. The important thing is to be completely HONEST. Otherwise, the results will not be accurate, now will they?

Next check out the Shape Up and Slim Down section. This is the section I’m currently trying to incorporate into my life. I want to try to take pieces of the diet plan and include them in my regular eating habits. I love the way this section is set up. So easy to use.

There is so much on this site that you could probably spend hours and hours there. Hopefully you can use this site to reach your Biggest Loser goals. Let me know what you think of it and how you end up utilizing it to improve your health and your life.

See you on Tuesday for the Biggest Loser recap. Stay healthy…Bloggergal1

Biggest Loser’s Black Team Gets to Party

March 11, 2009 · Filed Under Episode Recaps · Comment

Hi Everyone!
Tonight’s Biggest Loser starts with Mike’s weight loss. He needs to lost 10 pounds or more to keep everyone on the ranch this week. Of course, he does it…losing 11 pounds. His weight loss has been so encouraging to watch. Every week I watch him and his dad and feel so uplifted.

After the weigh-ins, Allison takes the players straight outside for a challenge. Thank goodness for my DVR because I became very confused when Allison explained what was going on and had to rewind and listen again. This week one black team member will face off against one blue team member at the weigh-in. The team receives one point for every win. The first team to win three points wins the weigh-in and the losing team has to send someone home.

Next, Allison announces a pop challenge. The players must sit against a wall with a medicine ball in their lap. The player that outlasts everyone else wins. This is a biggie because the winner of this challenge will decide the matches for the weigh-in and also who will sit out from the Black team at the weigh-in (since the black team has an extra player). Kristen will be sitting out of the challenge due to medical reasons. The Black team needs to pick two members to sit out of this challenge. They pick Helen and Sione to sit out. This challenge doesn’t take long. It’s hard to wall sit. First to go is Ron which is not surprising. Cathy is second. Two blue team members down already. Aubrey drops leaving Mandi the only member of the blue team. Filipe looses concentration and is eliminated. Next to drop is Mike. Laura is next. This leaves Mandi versus Tara. It seems that every challenge comes down to these two. I really am pushing for Mandi because the black team has dominated every challenge so far. But once again, Tara wins. Shoot!

Now Tara has to decide the match-ups at the weigh-in and also who will sit out at the weigh-in. The first match up is Mike against Cathy. Next is Sione versus Mandi. Mandi knows Tara wants her out of there. Filipe versus Kristen. Helen versus Ron. Since Ron usually loses a low amount of weight, Helen feels confident. The final match-up is Laura against Aubrey. Tara keeps herself out of the weigh-in. Tara admits that she’s afraid to face off against Aubrey. Black should float through this week but I am so cheering for the Blue team! Go Blue!

Bob does a Fiber One segment. I usually skip these “commercials” but what I thought was interesting is that he said that 9 out of 10 people do not get the recommended amount of fiber in their diet. One Fiber Bar gives you one-third of your day’s fiber recommendation.

Due to the match-ups, workouts are intensive. I think the match-ups were a great idea because it seems to have made the contestants work harder. Jillian is worried because she thinks her black team is getting cocky and complacent. I hope she’s right. Tee hee.

Jillian is working with every member of the team except for Filipe. Filipe is getting more and more annoyed. The workout finishes and Jillian leaves without saying anything to Filipe. What’s up with that? He stays in the gym and works harder than ever.

The next challenge is being held at a 24 Hour Fitness Center. It’s a relay race. The first player must take 24-6 pound medicine balls across the pool. The second player must carry the balls to the first stopping point. Then that same player must carry the balls up a flight of stairs to a third player. The third player must take the balls underneath a series of obstacles. The fourth player has to take the medicine balls down a basketball court doing 24 squats each time. Once again, Kristen has to sit out due to medical reasons. Mike and Laura will sit this one out.

Ron and Filipe are the first two to compete. Surprisingly Ron is hanging in there but by the end of the first round, he has a big advantage. Sione is competing against Helen. Sione is taking the steps two at a time. He’s really adding to the Black’s advantage. Tara is now on the obstacle course for the Black team. Mandi is behind but she’s started the obstacle course. Mandi wants to beat Tara SOOOO badly. Helen goes up against Aubrey in the gym. Helen’s a bit ahead but she’s worried. Aubrey is pushing big time. But, sadly she can’t do it. Black team wins again. They are undefeated in challenges. I feel so bad for the Blue team. The Black team wins 24 hours of luxury. Luxury huh…will they have too much fun???

The Black team goes to a spa for 24 hours. Massages, bubble baths, pedicures, manicures, relaxation…but no exercise. Oh I hope this backfires on them. They’ve become really arrogant. Meantime back at the ranch, the Blue team is working out and pushing themselves. The Black team sits down to order dinner. The menu is filled with some decadent choices. Jumbo Shrimp Cocktail, Kobe Beef Sliders, Filet Mignon, Roasted Alaskan Halibut, Chicken Fontina…the calorie amounts in those foods were HIGH. By the end of the meal, they had eaten a combined 13,000 calories!!! They started drinking tequila shots and getting drunk. Helen was smoking and Filipe ate more food. Everyone was feeling good and totally convinced that they weren’t undermining themselves. Tee hee! When all was said and done, the Black team had consumed a total of 15,563 calories and the Blue team 1,612. Tee hee!

The next day, the Black team is feeling regretful. Jillian shows up and knows her team had 24 hours of luxury. She tries to get them to tell them what they did but they all are mum. But of course Jillian knows they are lying and she’s really, really angry.

This bring out the confrontation between Filipe and Jillian. He flips out on her and screams about how she doesn’t want to train him, etc. Wow, it was kinda nice to see someone flip out on Jillian instead of vice versa for a change. Filipe and Sione walk while Filipe tries to calm down. The rest of the Black team sits silently stunned. Filipe and Sione run to Bob to whine. They want to work out with him instead of with Jillian. He lets them. This doesn’t necessarily make the Blue team too happy because they want all Bob’s attention. Jillian comes into the gym and see them working out with Bob and frankly she’s relieved. I don’t think she’s right this time.

Time for the weigh-ins. Since Tara doesn’t have to compete, she weighs in first. She lost 0 pounds. Karma baby! First face off is Mike versus Cathy. Mike lost 8 pounds this week. Cathy lost 4 pounds. This is probably because Mike is only 18 and couldn’t drink any alcohol. Black team has 1 point. Next is Laura versus Aubrey. Aubrey lost 3 pounds and Laura GAINED one pound. Score is Black team 1, Blue team 1. Filipe versus Kristen. Kristen lost 7 pounds and Filipe (chicken nuggets and fries guy) lost 1 pound. Black team 1, Blue team 2. Helen versus Ron. Helen lost 4 pounds. Not a bad weight loss considering her eating and drinking binge. Ron lost 6 pounds. However, the weight percentage is in the Black’s favor so the score is tied Black team 2/Blue team 2. It all comes down to Sione versus Mandi. Sione lost 6 pounds. This means if Mandi lost more than 4 pounds the Blue team wins. Mandi GAINED two pounds. Wow, how did that happen? Unbelievable, the Black team wins again.

I don’t know how much more the Blue team can take. They were so close this time. I feel so sorry for Mandi. She tried so hard. Allison tells Kristen that she has immunity but I don’t really know why. Even though Laura is from the Black team, she won a vote last week so she votes first. She votes to eliminate Cathy. Ron votes to eliminate Mandi. Kristen votes to eliminate Mandi. Cathy votes to eliminate Mandi. Aubrey votes to eliminate Cathy. Mandi votes to eliminate Ron to prevent a tie. If there was a tie, the Black team would get to pick who goes home from any Blue player except for Kristen. Mandi didn’t want to see that happen. Mandi is eliminated. Tears all around…okay even with me.

Next week both teams head home and prepare for a half marathon. Stay tuned…Bloggergal1

Is Biggest Loser going to live up to its name?

March 9, 2009 · Filed Under Episode Recaps · 2 Comments

Hi Everyone,

Is anyone watching Biggest Loser this season? I have a feeling those who are watching are DVR’ing it. Going up against American Idol is tough for any show but since Biggest Loser was already suffering will it really become “the biggest loser” in the ratings at least? Last week, the producers’ attempted to fuel this week’s show by creating a cliffhanger. I know I’ve been wondering all week if Mike lost over 10 pounds. Alright, I’m being sarcastic. Does it matter that much? If Mike loses the weight, no one goes home LAST week. But it’s not last week, it’s THIS week, so doesn’t someone get eliminated anyway?

The blurb on the Biggest Loser website says there is a surprising confrontation between one of the players and their trainer. Any guesses on who this could be? I suppose since they use the word surprising it’s not going to be one of the regular whiners. Comment with your guess and the winner(s) will get a special shout out. Stay tuned…Bloggergal1

Biggest Loser Cliffhanger

March 4, 2009 · Filed Under Episode Recaps · 1 Comment

Hello Everyone,

Sorry my update is so late. I was carrying my laptop this morning, tripped and
dropped it. It’s out of commission . Anyway, it’s been a long morning.

Dividing the teams into Black and Blue has started the players making alliances.
Of course those players who were together from the beginning are sticking close
together, for instance Ron, Kristen and Cathy. This worries some of the others.

Chef Rocco is back this week. He shows the contestants how fattening fast food is.
To emphasize how much fat he’s talking about he shows the actual fat (Crisco?)
amounts. I have to admit its frightening.

Next the contestants have a cooking challenge. Both teams have to make healthy
versions of typical fast foods: a healthy burger, a healthy burrito/Mexican entree
and a healthy pizza. They will be judged on taste and calorie content. They only
have 30 minutes to complete this. The winning team wins a dinner cooked by Chef
Rocco. Also, someone on the winning team will be chosen at random to receive an
extra vote in this week’s elimination. Chef Rocco is the judge and all the
contestants were really nervous to have him judge. The Blue Team’s pizza was
better than the Black Team’s. The burrito challenge is won by the Black Team. The
burger challenge also goes to the Black Team. The Black Team wins the challenge
and Laura wins the extra vote. Chef Rocco cooks and teaches the Black Team how to
make a great meal.

Bob takes his team off campus to a 24 Hour Fitness to try out a new exercise class
based on shadow boxing. Guest star Sugar Ray Leonard surprises the team. He tells
them how important the mind is when it comes to training and health.

Dr. H. stops by to see some of the contestants while they are working in the gym.
He congratulates Mike and Tara. Mike has lost 134 pounds of fat in three months!
Tara has had a 29 percent weight loss. That’s never been done on the Biggest
Loser. He talks to Mandi and tells her that she is off the charts on her fitness
test. Ron is finally lowering his blood sugar levels and getting healthier.

The next challenge involves the Los Angeles food bank. The teams have to take the
donated food, assemble it into a kit and then take those kits across the warehouse
and load them on to the trucks. Each team has to make 100 kits and load those kits
plus an extra 50 kits. The winning team gets a year supply of groceries, they will
be featured in a Cheerio advertising campaign and also receive letters from home.

The Black Team sits Laura out to even out the teams. The Black Team wins. It’s
all Black Team this show! Highlighting volunteerism was a great addition to this
challenge. The contestants have loaded enough food to feed over 1,000 people for one day.

The Blue Team takes their loss hard and they feel like the Black Team is showing
off with their wins. The letters from home section of the show was typical–lots
of crying and happiness. Then, Mike does an amazing thing. He gives Aubrey the year’s
supply of groceries because she has five kids. It made me feel so good to see a
college-age boy do something so selfless. I hope my sons are growing up the same
way.

Fast forward through the last chance workouts. Sorry but time is getting away from
me today.

Allison announces there is a chance for everyone to get immunity. If they all lose
a combined total of over 77 pounds no one goes home. That’s seven pounds per
contestant. But if they don’t, one person from each team will be going home. Plus
for every pound each contestant loses, Biggest Loser will donate 100 pounds of food
to Feed America.

First up tonight is Helen with a loss of 5 pounds. Mandi lost 8 pounds. Sione
lost 3 pounds. Aubrey lost 8 pounds. Laura lost 7 pounds. Ron lost 6 pounds.
Tara lost 11 pounds. She has amazing weight loss numbers every week. Kristen lost
9 pounds. With three people left to weigh in they must lose 30 pounds between
them. Next up is Filipe. He lost 8 pounds. Cathy lost 3 pounds. Mike has to
lose 10 pounds or more for everyone to have immunity. Lots of stress on such a
young guy. He walks up to the scale and my DVR stops. What? How can that be?
What happened at the end? So I did what any Google-loving gal would do–I searched
for my answer. Evidently, what happened is that NBC didn’t say. They left the
show with a cliffhanger and we have to wait until NEXT week to find out. Since my
DVR stopped I was kind of relieved I didn’t miss the end but what’s up with that?
Isn’t it bad enough that we sit and watch through two looonnnngggg hours every week
without them making us wait a week?

So I guess that’s it for today…stay tuned (no choice huh?) Bloggergal1
