The Biggest Losers Go Home

Hi Everyone,

This will be a challenging week for the Biggest Loser contestants. They will be spending this week at home with their families. Good for them, right? Yes, but will the temptations in the “real world” do them in? We go through each of the contestants arriving back home to see their families after 10 weeks. Lots of tears, hugs and proud comments. Seeing the before and current pictures makes you realize just how far these players have come.

I didn’t get involved in the homecomings until Ron and Mike went into their house. The scene where Mike is hugging is brother who is in desperate need of weight loss was very emotional. I hate to see young people starting out their lives already behind the eight ball like this kid. I hope that Ron and Mike’s weight loss will give him the encouragement he needs to also lose the weight.

Next, Biggest Loser delivers tins to each of the contestants. The tin is filled with giant sugar cookies and a DVD. Allison announces this week’s challenge. The contestants will run a half-marathon. That’s thirteen miles. Now comes the fun part. The tin holds 13 cookies. For every cookie you eat, you can add five minutes to another player’s time. Winner of the half-marathon in the shortest length of time wins $10,000.

Race Day arrives. Each of the contestants will run the half-marathon in front of their families. Tara is the biggest threat because she’s a runner. At the halfway mark, Tara and Sione are running neck and neck timewise. Mike, Helen, Kristen and Helen and Filipe are crashing after about 6 miles. Ron is walking steadily. Tara is as strong as ever. Sione is looking good, but he says he’s in pain. He’s slightly ahead of Tara. About 200 yards away from the finish line, Sione gets a leg cramp. He can’t move. He’s down on the ground and Tara is looking like a winner. Of course, don’t forget about the cookie-eaters adding minutes to her time. Sione finally is able to get back up and finish. Tara finishes the race in 2 hours 24 minutes 19 seconds. Sione finishes in 2 hours 25 minutes 57 seconds. Helen finishes the marathon in 2 hours 49 minutes 19 seconds. Wow, that’s an amazing time for a 48 year-old. Aubrey finishes in 2 hours 53 minutes 2 seconds. Cathy finishes in 3 hours 15 minutes 21 seconds. Mike finishes in 3 hours 19 minutes 38 seconds. Laura finishes in 3 hours 24 minutes. Filipe finishes 3 hours 24 minutes 5 seconds. Kristen finishes in 3 hours 43 minutes 45 seconds. Ron completes 4 miles in under 2 hours. This challenge all comes down to the cookie eating.

The next section of the Biggest Loser shows each contestant facing “their demons”. Pizza, calamari, pastries and other treats are all over the place. We’ll see if they stand their ground. Fast forward through the goodbyes.

Back at the ranch, Allison meets with the contestants to find out who will win the marathon and win the $10,000. It will be between Tara and Sione. No one penalized Sione by eating a cookie. But next is Tara. Before the cookies, she is ahead of Sione by one minute. Helen ate a cookie and did Tara in. Tara is really annoyed. I’m happy. I think Tara has gotten too used to winning. Sione gets the $10,000.

The last chance workouts are intense because the trainers know that they were home and probably didn’t work out as hard as they could.

It’s weigh-in time. The team with the greatest percentage weight loss will win. The losing team must send someone home. First up tonight is Mike. He lost 8 pounds this week. Awesome amount of weight loss considering he went home. Next up is Laura with a 6 pound weight loss. Tara loses 2 pounds. Jillian assures her that she’s doing okay but that she’s over training and that she needs to listen to her because she does this for a living. Sione loses 4 pounds. If he had lost one more pound, his total would have been 100 pounds total. Filipe lost 7 pounds. Helen lost 7 pounds. I guess that cookie didn’t hurt any, huh? In order for the blue team to beat the black team they need to lose a combined total of more than 24 pounds. I’m so rooting for them because they really need a boost to their confidence.

Aubrey is first up for the blue team. She lost 5 pounds. Ron lost 10 pounds this week. Maybe being home was better for him. He’s lost 103 pounds so far. Cathy and Kristin need to lose more than 9 pounds combined to keep the blue team safe. Kristin gained 1 pound. Everyone is shocked. Cathy has to have lost more than 10 pounds for the blue team to be safe. That’s a lot of weight. She lost only 1 pound. The blue team will lose another player this week. Time to re-order the teams, don’t you think?

The blue team has a terrible decision in front of them. They have to send someone home. Cathy volunteers to go home. She wants to sacrifice herself to save Aubrey and Kristin. Aubrey is the first to cast her vote. She votes to send Cathy home. Ron votes to eliminate Cathy saying he’s honoring her wishes. Kristin has the deciding vote between her mother and her friend. She listens to her mom and votes her own mother off. Tears flow and flow.

That’s it for this week. Have a super week. Bloggergal1

Before the half-marathon, what was Tara’s running program like? How far did she run? How fast?

I usually run 5 miles four times a week. If I enter a half-marathon training program, I positioned myself to completing the program within 6 weeks. I’m sure the contestants’ trainers wouldn’t have subjected them to a half-marathon if the contestants weren’t prepared.

Nice job Ron. We are all praying for you.We know how hard it is to have diabetes and try to lose weight, but your doing it and even competing against much younger team mates who have no known medical issues.
