And The Biggest Loser Is…

May 12, 2009 · Filed Under Episode Recaps

Hi Everybody,
Okay I could lie and tell you that I saw the first hour of the Biggest Loser finale…but I didn’t! I watched the semi-final of American Idol. Now usually I watch Biggest Loser early the next morning but I can’t tomorrow because I have to leave the house by 8:15 a.m.

So when I changed the station, Jerry was in the lead for the “at home” Biggest Loser. He is soooo skinny–almost too skinny. However, some of the “at home” contestants didn’t lose as much as I expected. I guess this is because they have somuch to lose. Well, when all was said and done, no one could beat Jerry and he won the At Home Biggest Loser title.

When I wasn’t watching, it was announced that Mike was voted by America to join Helen and Tara in the top three. Helen is first up to weigh in. She lost a lot of weight–140 pounds to be exact! She lost a whole person–me actually! Mike is second. He lost 207 pounds! But he can’t catch Helen. This leaves the title of Biggest Loser between Helen and Tara. Tara is last to weigh-in. She lost a total of 155 pounds, but she needed to lose 160 to beat Helen. So this season’s Biggest Loser is…drum roll please…Helen Phillips. Huh? Helen Phillips won? Yep, she sure did.

I know this doesn’t make everyone happy. Tara kicked butt throughout the whole season and ended up with…well she did win some nice prizes–didn’t she? Helen’s daughter Shannon sacrificed herself for her mom. Her current weight shows that she really did sacrifice herself. Hopefully, Helen will make it worth her while! Helen’s husband is employed at a Chrysler plant and isn’t sure of his future. At least now, they won’t have to worry as much as the rest of us, right?

So, congratulations to Helen and Jerry! Thanks for reading and commenting with me this season! I can’t do this without you! Love Bloggergal1

My vote for the most changed contestant is Kristin. Wow, the hair style and weight loss have made her amazing looking! Good for her!!!!

I watched the entire 3 hours and cannot be more disappointed Helen won. I am also a 48 year old woman, however, not overweight, I work out and weight train and never let my weight control my lift even when I had children. Helen is an embarrassment to all of us middle aged women, it was pitfully to watch her whine and cry every week and show us just how weak she really is and probably will gain weight again. What really bothers me about her, and I am surprised no one speaks of it was how easily she sacrficed her daughter not once, but twice, what a selfish mother and she should be ashamed of herself. Her daughter, Shannon, still looked overweight and has a long way to go. Helen not only lost all the weight, she won the cash, it should have been her daughter standing at the end and not Helen. I believe Ron showed the example of good parenting and Helen was just too selfish to let her daughter come first. Helen winning was a great disappointment to this 48 year mother of two and I would never forsake my kids for my own needs. Helen is a loser in by book.

Robin I so agree with what you just said. Ron was so good to let his son come first and I couldn’t stand Helen through the entire show. Hopefully, next season will be better

I was actually glad to see Tara lose. My wife stayed up just to make sure she didn’t win. I would have rather seen Mike win, but Helen killed it. Fun season to watch, but they definitely didn’t need 3 hours of weighing people in last night.

I’m glad I’m not the only one who felt this way! I have no problem with Helen losing the weight, but I will be surprised if she keeps it off. She did not look good at all, and almost looked gaunt. Her daughter is a really good looking young woman, and I think that she could have used that time there more than mom. Tara will keep hers off because she really zoned in and wouldn’t let anything keep her from winning. To me she was a real inspiration. I believe that Mike is going to have a lifetime of challenges ahead of him. I think it is going to be a real chore for him to keep his weight off.

Calling Helen an embarrassment to middle aged women is a bit harsh and extreme. Her choices are hers, and shouldn’t cause discomfort or embarrassment to anyone watching a t.v. show. That’s just lame. I agree she was selfish to send her daughter home, and I agree she is too thin now. She actually looked pretty good at about 140lbs.

I wanted Tara to win. She was such a fierce competitor the entire season. Too bad she missed it by a measly 5lbs! Mike is a sweet kid, and I think it will be a difficult raod for him to maintain his weight loss. But I think he can do it.

Calling Helen an embarrassment to middle age women is a bit harsh? Honestly I don’t think it’s harsh enough. I was sickened to watch her stand there with her awful grin while her still overweight daughter was forced to justify her mother’s selfishness on national television. Her poor daughter has barely started her life and her mother told her not once but TWICE “I am more important to me than you.” My heart breaks for her.

I feel the same away about Helen. She was extremely selfish in letting her daughter go home so she could stay and get trim. Her daughter wants to meet a man and start a family. I was very disappointed to see Helen win. I wanted Tara to win. Tara worked so hard to win tasks and stay above the yellow line, I think she deserved to win. Some people thought she won too much… but she had it just as rough as the rest, she just pushed the hardest. I liked Mike, but I thought his dad was not a nice person the way he would push for everyone to send home the person of his choice. Mike just got a little too over-confident for me. Once again Jillian proves to be the better trainer!

The idea of the show was “couples” and Helen threw her daughter under the bus..glad she lost weight, but she looked unhealthy @ 117 lbs..the other two looked good! She’s going to have to spend her money on plastic surgery to remove the sagging skin!

I disagree that Helen is selfish. While you all are obviously entitled to your opinion, I think you’re wrong. Did she choose herself over her daughter? Yes. But, we don’t know the past behind that relationship. Helen may have given Shanon everything she ever wanted and sacrificed herself in every way. The Biggest Loser could have been her time to shine and make herself a priority. Changing your life and losing weight is about choosing you over everyone and everything else. So yeah, I guess it is selfish, but you NEED to be that way to succeed in something so important and big.

As a mother of two, I can’t imagine putting myself first over my sons. I suppose it’s healthy to do that, but “nope!” it ain’t happenin! Thanks for all the great comments and another amazing season of Biggest Loser! Bloggergal1

Sooooo disappointed that Helen won. She certainly didn’t deserve it; she never should’ve been there in the first place. As a mother, you sacrifice for your kids……and for her to have taken the place on campus instead of her daughter was SO wrong. she lost me there and then when she ate a cookie against Tara during the run challenge; what did that accomplish for Helen????? I’m a Tara fan through and through; seldom do you see someone as focused, committed and mentally strong like her. Love her! Well, I think out of all of this, she was the true winner as she won the hearts of BL fans across America because her true spirit shined each and every week. All Helen did was whine and whine and whine. And for her not to sacrifice for her daughter was unacceptable for me as a mom.

I too was very dissapointed that Helen won…I did think it was ironic that Ron sent Kristen home that time when he had to decide between the two ladies (I think I’m remembering this right) He should have kept Kristen and sent Helen home…Maybe Mike would have won, or my choice, Tara. She was awesome!

I was a bit disappointed that Helen had won, but I think all 3 of the finalist deserved it becuz they did put in the hard work and were very dedicated to changing their lives for the healthier.. The one I was most amazed with was Kristen, she brought tears to my eyes and I feel she is a true inspiration, she was mine this season. Looking forward to seeing the new challenges for next season..

I LOVED Kristen and Tara both the same… they both were very sweet and humble and worked their ACES off… I believe in my heart of hearts they will BOTH keep their weight off and have very happy lives. God Bless both of them…THEY… are THE Biggest Losers!!!

Okay, Helen won and most of us aren’t happy about that. But I have a question. Why in God’s name didn’t she get a makeover before she went on the finale? That hair–that horrible, horrible hair. She could take a few years off that face if she would just CUT-COLOR-CONDITION IT honey.
I also think Tara could have won if she hadn’t had so much make up on. Those false eyelashes alone had to weigh 5 lbs. She was a lovely girl…she didn’t need to look like something out of an Autin Powers movie.
