Biggest Loser Gives a Contestant a Second Chance

April 1, 2009 · Filed Under Episode Recaps

Hi Everyone,

The show starts with former Biggest Loser winner Allie Vincent meeting the contestants in the gym. Allison had a baby girl and Allie is filling in for her. She announces that one of the eliminated contestants will return to the ranch today. Nicole, Estella and David will weigh-in and the one who has the highest weight loss percentage will get a second chance on Biggest Loser. Also that player will have immunity at the weigh-in this week. If you remember, this is how Allie won the game. She was given a second chance and then returned and won it all. Why these three? They were the three that were eliminated while still with their partner to allow their partner to remain on the ranch.

Estella is first on the scale. She has lost a total of 45 pounds, 18.6%. David lost a total of 46 pounds, 11.7%. Nicole lost 87 pounds, 32.34%. Nicole is back in the game and the other contestants are shaking in their boots! She has the second highest percentage weight loss of all the contestants. Only Tara has a higher percentage. Look out…here comes Nicole!

Bob is excited to see Nicole come back. Tara is freaking out and talks one-on-one with Jillian. Jillian tries to calm her down. Tara tells Jillian that she can’t figure out why she gained the weight in the first place.

Ron is walking when he breaks out into a cold sweat and chest pains. The show immediately sends him to the hospital. He wasn’t having a heart attack but he is having blood loss. The doctor sends him for a procedure to put a tube down his esophagus to figure out why he’s bleeding (double balloon enteroscopy). Turns out he’s going to be fine. He needs to take medicine for a recurring ulcer due to a complication from his previous gastric bypass surgery.

Challenge time! Michelle, last season’s Biggest Loser will host this challenge. Each of the contestants will be on a platform 6 feet above a pool. The platform is held up by ropes. One by one the ropes will be released making it harder and harder to balance. Last one standing wins a one pound advantage at the weigh-in. If Nicole wins, since she has immunity, will get to give one pound to the player of her choice. Challenges like this make me aware of why I could never compete on one of these reality shows!

First to drop into the water is Mike, followed quickly by Filipe. Laura is the third person eliminated. Tara falls in next. Did she throw it? Who knows. Helen is eliminated next. Three competitors remain…Nicole, Kristin and Sione. Nicole is next to fall. Sione and Nicole are going head to head. Sione’s face is serious. He wants this bad. Kristin has great balance–she is hardly wobbling. But unfortunately, she loses her balance first. Sione wins the challenge.

Fast forward through the last chance workouts to the weigh-ins. Allison is back. Nicole is first up on the scale but she has immunity. She gained 5 pounds this week. Everyone is in total shock. It’s things like this that make “dieters” want to give up. I guess the rule is if she gains weight, she doesn’t keep immunity. She is below the yellow line. Kristin is next. She lost 4 pounds this week. Laura lost…oops gained 1 pound. What is going on? Tara needs to lose 1 pounds to break the 100 pound mark. She lost 6 pounds this week! She has officially become the second woman to lose more than 100 pounds on campus. Helen lost 6 pounds this week. She takes a huge breath of relief. Sione lost 6 pounds this week, plus a 1 pound advantage. Filipe lost 4 pounds and this keeps him safe from elimination. Mike lost 11 pounds this week. Ron is last to weigh-in. He was in the hospital part of the week. As long as he doesn’t gain weight, he is safe from elimination. Unfortunately, he gained 3 pounds. Not surprising since they gave him fluids at the hospital. Now it’s between Ron and Nicole to be eliminated.

To me this is a no-brainer. Keeping Nicole over Ron would be game suicide. She’s too tough of a competitor to keep around. The only reason to maybe choose Ron would be his total support of his son Mike. Mike of course votes to send Nicole home. Filipe votes to send Ron home. Mike and Ron feel he betrayed them. Laura votes to send Nicole home. Sione votes against Ron. Since Sione and Filipe are cousins, this doesn’t come as a surprise. Tara, feeling threatened by Nicole, votes to eliminate her. Helen votes to send Ron home. This makes 3 votes each. Kristin is the deciding vote. She votes to send Nicole home. Her second chance has ended quickly and I’m sure Tara and Mike are breathing a huge sigh of relief.

Have a great week…Bloggergal1

After watching all of the Biggest loser episodes. I am more and more inpired by Ron. Depite being the oldest player and having to carry the most weight for the longest, he is still hanging in there. Ron like many is diabetic too which we know makes weight loss much more difficult than for his team mates but Ron still hangs in there. Ron also has sleep apnea which no one can understand how bad that makes one feel unless you have experinced, even with this and the pain that he is in, Ron still hangs in there. What an inpiration Ron is to so many. Thank you Ron for the hope!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ron certainly has my respect. Anyone who can have diabetes, ulcers, bad knees and shoulder, sleep apnea and still compete with younger contestants who have none of this is incredible. Ron you are incredible. Ron, Please keep up the good work, you are changing lifes by being on the show.

I can not believe that Philippe, Sione and Helen would to send home Ron, the player who is struggling for his life. What is wrong with these members??

I agree. My respect for Filipe and Sionne is in the toilette for trying to send home the player that has struggled for his life for so long.

Watching Fillipe and Sionne was a real downer for me. Ron has bent over backwards to keep them on the Ranch and when Ron needed a break because he had been in the hospital not knowwing if his life was at stake, Filipe and Sionne then trying to send Ron home knowing that this would put Rons life in jeopardy.

Sione and Filipe did have some audacity to manipulate Ron who has been in the hopital and has suffefed with chronic illness and obesity all of his life. Ron has been so good hearted and does not deserve this ill treatment. Sione and Filipe would sacrifice Rons life for their selfish pursuits as would Helen. Other than this , BL is an aweome show, changing America.

That was pretty heartless of Filipe and Sionne to try to send Ron home after Ron was rushed to the hosptial. I do not trust Filipe or Sione or Helen.
Would Helen, Sionne or Filipe be so cruel to send hhome Tara is she is having a bipolar attack

That blew our minds too, that Sione and Filipe tried to send Ron home after Ron was rushed to the hospital, Ron desperately needs this ranch and deserves to stay. Ron is puching himself so hard.

I think that Filipe, Sione and Helen would send Tara home in a flash if they could for any reason! This season of the Biggest Loser has some pretty decent contestants, but maybe now the claws are starting to come out. Don’t forget there is a lot of money at stake! Thanks for all the great comments everyone! Keep ‘em coming! Bloggergal1

You have all got to be kidding me. If Ron doesn’t get sent home soon, I will be done with this show. He had his chance with gastric bypass surgery and still managed to become this huge. Now he begs for himself and his son, but feels comfortable telling others that “it’s time” for them to go home. Tonight (April 14), he won’t even try the challenge. GET RID OF HIM!

    Nancy,
Help me out…I am out of town and didn’t see the show. Can you give us a quick recap? Thanks! Bloggergal1

Ron has a real bad side to him, he is a manipulator and is only in the show because of his son’s support. Although I would like all the contestants to be the winners here in the biggest loser. I am all for Philippe and Sione. But unluckily both have been eliminated at this point and Ron is through to the finals. Best of luck to everybody. If there is a open vote, my vote will not go for any surviving contenstants. Everyone I liked have been eliminated. Only the vilest and most cunning have survived.
