And The Biggest Loser Is…
Hi Everybody,
Okay I could lie and tell you that I saw the first hour of the Biggest Loser finale…but I didn’t! I watched the semi-final of American Idol. Now usually I watch Biggest Loser early the next morning but I can’t tomorrow because I have to leave the house by 8:15 a.m.
So when I changed the station, Jerry was in the lead for the “at home” Biggest Loser. He is soooo skinny–almost too skinny. However, some of the “at home” contestants didn’t lose as much as I expected. I guess this is because they have somuch to lose. Well, when all was said and done, no one could beat Jerry and he won the At Home Biggest Loser title.
When I wasn’t watching, it was announced that Mike was voted by America to join Helen and Tara in the top three. Helen is first up to weigh in. She lost a lot of weight–140 pounds to be exact! She lost a whole person–me actually! Mike is second. He lost 207 pounds! But he can’t catch Helen. This leaves the title of Biggest Loser between Helen and Tara. Tara is last to weigh-in. She lost a total of 155 pounds, but she needed to lose 160 to beat Helen. So this season’s Biggest Loser is…drum roll please…Helen Phillips. Huh? Helen Phillips won? Yep, she sure did.
I know this doesn’t make everyone happy. Tara kicked butt throughout the whole season and ended up with…well she did win some nice prizes–didn’t she? Helen’s daughter Shannon sacrificed herself for her mom. Her current weight shows that she really did sacrifice herself. Hopefully, Helen will make it worth her while! Helen’s husband is employed at a Chrysler plant and isn’t sure of his future. At least now, they won’t have to worry as much as the rest of us, right?
So, congratulations to Helen and Jerry! Thanks for reading and commenting with me this season! I can’t do this without you! Love Bloggergal1
My vote for the most changed contestant is Kristin. Wow, the hair style and weight loss have made her amazing looking! Good for her!!!!
Who will be the 2009 Biggest Loser?
Hi Everybody!
Are you ready for the Biggest Loser finale? Tomorrow night at 8:00 p.m., we’ll find out who America has chosen to join Helen and Tara in the final three. Will they pick Ron, thinking that he doesn’t have a chance against Tara? Or will they choose Mike, hoping that he can beat Tara in the end? Don’t forget that Helen is in this mix too. Can she pull off an upset and beat Tara and Mike/Ron to claim the title of Biggest Loser? I know a lot of you don’t want to see that happen. Many feel that Helen was extremely selfish by promoting herself and staying on the ranch instead of pushing to save her daughter. Maybe we should all be like Helen. Do we put our children before ourselves many times to our own detriment? I know…we can go back and forth about this one for a long, long time. Stay tuned…Bloggergal1
Biggest Loser Contestants Head Toward the Finish Line
The Biggest Loser starts with the contestants’ “Oh my God!” reunions with their families. Remember they will all be home for thirty days and then return to the ranch for their final weigh-in before the finale.
Tara gives her $25,000 kitchen makeover prize to her mom. Her kitchen looks beautiful and she was supplied with all the Biggest Loser products that she will need to keep her weight in line.
The contestants receive a tape from Allison. Allison tells them that they will be running a marathon–a 26.2 mile marathon. Tara doesn’t seem as frightened as the others, does she? Ron…well you know. They have 26 days to train.
Jillian takes a trip to visit her players. She meets Mike at the gym. He’s feeling very stressed about everything. He’s worried about the marathon, he’s worried about his weigh-ins and he’s worried about his brother Max. She works with Mike to get him to refocus. Watching Mike make this transition on the Biggest Loser this season has been incredible for me. Wouldn’t it be great if Biggest Loser took a whole group of teenagers to work with next season? Come on Biggest Loser!
Next, Jillian goes to see Tara. Tara’s bedroom is a total wreck and Jillian tells her that the room reflects what is going inside her head. She doesn’t seem to be finding a balance in her life. They work out together and then go out for lunch and a drink. Yes, a drink! Jillian teaches her that she can have a drink as long as she is working out and taking care of herself.
Bob goes to visit Ron. He works out with Ron and his son Max. Bob works Max out to the…well…max! Teehee. He works him out until he vomits. A joy to watch. He teaches Max how to eat nutritiously and Biggest Loser squeezes in another Subway commercial.
Jillian meets with Helen. Helen is feeling the stress of being home too. She is trying way too hard and she’s exhausted from it. She’s doing what a lot of us do…she’s trying to please everyone, all the time. Sound familiar to anyone? Jillian talks some sense into her. As one of our blog commenters asked, where is Helen’s daughter in all this?
The contestant’s are training for the marathon. Mike is running and ends up going to the hospital due to excrutiating pain. He doesn’t know if he’s going to be able to run the marathon.
Marathon time! Whoever finishes the marathon will be able to give $10,000 to their favorite charity. Helen and Tara are jogging side by side. Mike and Ron are walking side by side. Helen’s husband meets her and runs along side her. Tara’s friend runs along with her. Max joins Mike on the race. Helen’s husband drops out and she keeps on going. Max is suffering and stops. Mike keeps going. Ron makes it to mile five before he has to stop for some Doctor care. They wrap him up and he’s determined to keep going. Tara is met by Allie (Season Five winner) and she encourages her. Helen is met by Michelle (Season Six winner) for encouragement. Mike is disappointed that he is only able to walk the marathon. He is met by Bernie (Season Five at home winner). Tara, of course, finishes first. She finishes in less than 5 hours. Helen finishes in 5 hours and 48 minutes. Mike finishes in a little less than 8 hours. Ron is at mile 16 and the medical team are worried over him. His blood pressure if really high, but Dr. H. tells him he can still keep going if he wants to continue. He keeps walking. At mile 17, he’s met with all the prior winners to encourage him and walk with him. At mile 21, he’s met by Bob. Ron is determined to finish this race. It’s dark and he’s at mile 22. Ron keeps walking. Watching Ron finish this marathon was so inspiring. Yep…the tears are flowing again. My tears, Mike’s tears, Max’s tears and pretty much everyone who’s watching I bet. It took him a little over 13 hours to finish.
At tonight’s weigh-in, Allison tells Ron and Helen that they are the two oldest contestants to ever make it this far on Biggest Loser. The top two guarantee themselves a spot in the final three. The two who fall below the yellow line will face elimination. America votes for who stays and who goes. First up tonight is Ron. He lost 10 pounds at home. Mike lost 10 pounds at home also. He isn’t happy with his total. However, it’s enough to put him above his father. Helen is next. She lost 7 pounds at home. This puts her above Ron and Mike and guarantees her a place in the final three. Tara lost 10 pounds at home. She is also in the final three. This means that either Ron or Mike will be voted by America to that final spot. They seem upset, but I think that this is good, because Mike has a really great chance of being in the finale–at least I hope he does!
Each contestant is able to speak to America and plead their case. Of course, Ron begs America to vote for his son Mike. Mike tells America that he’s happy either way. So who will become the Biggest Loser? I’d be very surprised if it’s not Tara. But, I can’t help hoping it’s Mike. I always cheer for the underdog. I just can’t help it. See you next Tuesday night for the Biggest Loser finale! Stay tuned…Bloggergal1
This Week’s Biggest Loser Is Last Before the Finale
Hi Everyone,
This week’s Biggest Loser is the last one before the May 12th finale. Who do you think will be in the final three? It’s amazing that Ron and Helen are still on the ranch. The contest seems to be between Mike and Tara. Don’t forget this week will all depend on who has the most will power because the contestants are home for 30 days prior to this weigh-in.
Past contestants will return to the show this week to cheer on the Final Four. The Final Four will compete in a full marathon. Hmm, who is the best runner of those four? Hmm, does anyone else stand a chance again Tara? Couldn’t the producers pick something for the contestants to do that would even up the odds?
Anyway…stay tuned…Bloggergal1

Wednesday’s show – A tearful weigh-in
Hi Everyone!
Wednesday’s show focus was way more positive. Amy went back to the gym making Jillian proud of her. Michelle talked with Jillian about her relationship with her mom. Everyone worked their tails off in the last chance workout.
Bob took his team to Subway. He parked way far from the entrance–an easy, sneaky way to get in a short walk. I use this method a lot, but always make sure it doesn’t compromise your safety! He explained how to check the fat and calorie content of the subs. Bob didn’t mention this but one thing I do when I go to Subway is never using any kind of dressing. This gives you a little extra calorie savings.
On to the weigh-ins. Once again, only one couple will fall below the yellow line and they will need to pick who goes and who stays. Colleen lost three pounds. Michelle and Renee lost nine pounds. Amy and Shellay lost nine pounds. Phil and Amy lost eight pounds. Heba and Ed lost eight pounds, but actually Heba lost eight pounds and Ed lost nothing! Brady and Vicky lost a whopping twelve pounds! This put Heba and Ed below the yellow line. A tough decision awaited them. They decided to send Ed home–lots more crying!
I think its interesting that Ed didn’t lose any weight this week. It shows how every person is different and loses at different speeds. Its so important to make sure your diet and exercise goals focus on you specifically. Not losing is really tough and overcoming a week like that is really, really hard. Of course, we see at the end of the show that Ed was more than able to lose the weight at home. He looks awesome!
Take care everyone! Have a happy, healthy week…love bloggergal1
Biggest Loser Tuesday A Whole Lotta Not Much?
Hi Everyone!
We’re back from our 30th anniversary jaunt. San Diego is such a beautiful place. Neil Diamond was amazing. Now there’s inspiration to stay healthy and in shape!
I just finished watching Tuesday’s Biggest Loser show. The first words that come to mind are tear-jerky and annoying. The show started with Amy and Philip going home for 24 hours. They spent time hiking with their children and hugging and crying. Crying happens a lot on the Biggest Loser doesn’t it? While Amy & Philip were home, Shellay and Amy spent 24 hours with their trainer, Jillian. What were they thinking? She definitely belongs on a Marine Base. I know I could never be on the Biggest Loser because I DO NOT like being yelled at. It’s why I could never play a sport or join a military unit. You yell at me, I shut down–plain and simple! Meanwhile back at the ranch the rest of the couples (and Coleen) were business as usual.
The challenge this week involved hanging from a chain/bar while balancing on another. It started out easy because they were doing it in a tank full of water, but then slowly but surely the water started draining and hanging on got harder and harder. The end was a showdown between Amy and Vicky. The prize was a package from home along with a family VIP vacation at Universal Studios. Both of the women wanted it bad, but Vicky won. That mother fighting for something for her “youngin” kicked in! Vicky was able to pick another couple to get the package from home and she picked Amy so all’s well that ends well, ya know?
The next part of the show was a Jillian screaming fest. I’ll be honest–I fast forwarded. I just can’t stand to listen to her scream and threaten the contestants. Other than a little time that Bob spent talking with Vicky about her exercise routines (she has bad knees) and then Vicky in turn talking to her hubby about having to work out more than him–nothing else to report.
So is that all this season is going to hold? Crying and yelling and not much else? What about more nutrition guidance? What about ways to exercise that aren’t just pain sessions? What about some real compassion from the coaches? Is it me, or does Jillian always look like she’s BS’n when she finally makes a “breakthrough”?
So since this is a two show week, we get to see who lost what and falls below the yellow line tonight at 9:00 p.m. Again, there will be only one couple below the yellow line and they will have to choose which one of them will leave and which one of them will stay. I have to admit, I’m still rooting for Coleen–especially since she’s all alone now. How about the rest of you? Stay tuned…love Bloggergal1
My Exercise Motivation
Hi Everyone!
Happy Sunday! It’s my 30th wedding anniversary this week, so my DH and I are having some fun. Oh, by the way, I was a child bride LOL!!! Last night, we went to see Don McLean of Bye Bye American Pie fame. He’s 63 years old now but still sings really well. Tuesday we’re going to see Neil Diamond. I’ll have to DVR Biggest Loser. Some things just are more important, ya’ know?
Yesterday, my husband and I went on a five mile hike on the Santa Rosa Plateau. It’s an ecological reserve in southern California. This time of year mostly everything is brown, but its still really beautiful up there. When you get far enough in, all you hear is nature. That’s so relaxing. About six months ago, I did this hike with my 17 year-old. I couldn’t breathe then. The difference in my fitness level is amazing. Yes, I have to admit, I’m proud of myself!
How did I get in better shape? I started walking…a lot. Forced walking actually. You see I adopted a puppy. He’s a borador. That’s a border collie mixed with a labrador. He’s 10 months old and we’ve had him for about 6 months or so. He’s active…really, really active. I can take him for an hour’s walk and come home and he’s warmed up and ready to play. We walk him twice a day, usually an hour each time. Sometimes I walk him in the morning and my DH will take the evening walk. But sometimes, I take both walks. If you don’t walk him he gets HYPER. Believe me, you have no choice, you have to walk him and walk him and then walk him some more!
So there are days when you wake up in the morning and you just feel like “blah”. You have your morning cuppa Joe and guess what…still “blah”. So you check your email or you turn on Good Morning America. But sitting in front of you with this happy, eager look on his face is your puppy. He doesn’t understand “blah”. What he understands is that every morning you take him for a walk and he’s ready so you better be too. I force myself to get dressed and get out the door. Before you know it, there’s a spring in my step too! Pounds are dropping, my body feels better, my spirit is lifted and I’ve given an innocent little puppy a chance to live a happy life. So quick…go to your nearest shelter and get yourself a motivating puppy! But, PLEASE, only if you have the time to spend taking care of him or her!!!
JETER:
As for this week’s Biggest Loser? Do you think that once again only one person will be voted off? We shall see on Tuesday. Until then…love…Bloggergal1
Episode 3 calls for a road trip!
Hi Everyone!
Welcome to week three of the Biggest Losers: Families. This week the couples are on a road trip to the Grand Canyon. But before arriving there, they must face their first temptation. The temptation involved the couples guessing the number of calories in various foods. The couple who guessed the closest number of calories without going over would receive a box of Xtra Fruit Sensations gum. The first couple to get three boxes of gum wins a camper for their trip while all the other couples will camp the “old fashioned” way. The twist to this is that any couple who competes but doesn’t guess correctly must eat the food. Heba and Ed win when the other contestants chicken out and stop competing. This competition just seemed like a huge Xtra gum commercial to me!
The Grand Canyon is amazing isn’t it? I heard one of the contestants say that it was on her “life list” and I have to agree that it’s on mine too. Hopefully I will get there! Before their challenge, the couples were left on their own at the campsite. They were given some equipment…medicine balls, etc., but no one seemed to know what to do with it. Some walked and most lazed out. Not a good way to lose weight!
The competition took place in the river of the Grand Canyon. One of each couple had to paddle a kayak tied to a pier as far out as they could go. Then the others would try to pull them back to the dock. The last one to reach the dock wins an RV. Before the competition started, my husband predicted that the female couples didn’t stand a chance. Only one couple, Ed and Heba decided that they would send the male out. Ed had no problem rowing and staying away from the dock the longest. Will winning two competitions in a row put a great big bullseye on their back? You betcha!
So as I’m watching the show, one of the couples are cooking and talking and I look behind them and for the first time notice the kitchen cabinets. Did you notice them? They’re white with this big gold design stamped in the middle–very 60′s. My husband said they matched the drapes. Huh? The outside of the ranch isamazing looking. Where on earth did this kitchen come from? Sorry…I lost my train of thought!
New twist! No vote this week. There will be only one couple that falls below the yellow line and of that one couple only one person will go home. It will be up to the couple to pick who goes. I’m not sure where this will lead in future weeks when that person is alone and everyone else is in couples, but I guess we shall see.
On to the weigh ins: Phil & Amy lost 15 pounds. Brady & Vicky lost 8 pounds. Michelle & Renee lost 9 pounds. Ed & Heba lost 16 pounds. Amy & Shellay lost 9 pounds. Jerry & Coleen lost 5 pounds. Jerry actually gained 2 pounds while Coleen lost 7. This gave the lowest percentage of weight loss to Jerry and Coleen. Since Jerry is injured who would leave is a no-brainer. In fact, the whole “twist” thing just seems like a really big ruse to get Jerry out of there.
Seeing how Jerry continued to lose weight after leaving the ranch was uplifting. I’ve been rooting for him since the very beginning–that underdog thing, ya’ know? Since Jerry and Coleen were my favorite couple I guess I’ll have to pick a new one!
Have a great remainder of the week, love Bloggergal1
Week Three Warm Up
Hi Everyone!
It’s week number 3 of The Biggest Losers: Families. I wonder what’s in store for the contestants? The tiny weight loss amounts from week two have to be eating (get it?) at them! I suppose the contestants can go either way…get fed up and do worse or dig down deep and work harder to improve their percentages in week number three.
Our poll hasn’t had much participation (and WHY NOT????) but so far the favorite couple is Coleen and Jerry. There’s something about Jerry that makes you cheer for him– a genuine “good guy” quality. Coleen’s determination in the competitions, while having to compete by herself also improves their popularity. It’s great to see a daughter support her dad that way.
This show is so different from all the other reality competitions because everyone is heading towards a great goal. How can you dislike any of these people? I’m cheering for all of them!
Well, here’s hoping you all have a great start to the new week! I’ll be back on Tuesday evening with your recap. Please join me! Also, comment and let me know why you are watching and what you think about the show so far–PLEASE??
